As I wrote last month, I have been busy working on a book. It is a growing project that has been opening my eyes and teaching me much about what is happening in our world. The truth is that, in recent weeks, I have not actually written much in the book, but have been on this journey of discovery. I keep finding more to add into the book. It is not that I have not been writing, I do have a coach and write a reflective journal everyday about my day and about my journey along the path of writing the book. I also regularly record and subsequently transcribe notes as ideas come to mind or a run across something interesting.

Today, I realized that I need to get back to my blog more often. Duh! I’ve done little here for months. It occurred to me that, since I try to keep my writing here informal and easy (fun?), some of my book writing journey might be interesting to write about here. I also have other things to write about. This blog has provided some of the initial content for my book, so it makes sense to get back to it and see if it can generate more content.

As the days, weeks and months roll on, I shall grab snippets of my reflective writing, coaching session notes, thoughts I record and transcribe and E-mails to various people. I’ll describe some of the nuggets I discover on my journey and try out some ideas that I might add to the book. I think I am at around 36,000 words in very rough form and have a long way to go. I may even decide to post a few chapters.

I may also write about some completely different things and add to my photography work on my photography blogs. Perhaps, I may be able to increase the number of people who read my blogs. If you are interested in what I am doing, perhaps you could make a comment or two and subscribe. In the future there will be many tasks for us to work on together. For example, how to deal with too much E-mail, how to make your Internet surfing more private (Wait until you read why!) and then a big one, protecting yourself from identity theft. I have a recent experience to tell you about.

50 percent off—insulting deals

Every few months I get a notice from my cable supplier that they are offering a deal on cable services. I don’t subscribe to cable TV, however, I do subscribe to their Internet service. For some reason, we get quite a few TV channels that seem to come automatically with the Internet service. It seemed strange when I discovered them, but I gladly accept them. When we moved a couple of years ago, I mentioned it to the service person and he did not know why this was happening. These are enough channels for us. If I had more, I might not ever be able to turn the TV off. I would also be overwhelmed in try to decide what to watch.

Back to my feelings of being insulted by the offers. According to the cable supplier, half price (50 percent) for the first six months is a good deal. I don’t think so. If I pay 50 percent for six months, that is 25 percent percent off for the year. If I choose to keep the cable subscription for two years, the savings is 12.5 percent. It is altogether likely that I might keep the subscription for even ten years. Over ten years, the deal savings drops to 2.5 percent. Even expensive camera equipment can be had for a better deal.

This is even worse than department stores that post signs of 50 percent off (that is, buy one and get a second for 50 percent off). Well, that is only 25 percent off and I have to buy twice as much as I want. I can get other deals of 30 to 40 percent off. Who do they think they are fooling?

Am I right?

Preamble

I have many interesting activities in my life—so many that I have neglected my blogs. Since myBobLog is my original and first blog, it is here that I endeavor to begin my blogging journey once again. I start now with a new theme.

In the hopefully near future, I want to write about a project of growing my hair to donate to cancer patients. I have a fundraising page that I will link to. I also need to write about my return to playing music with my cornet and how had a dream come true by acquiring a particular cornet. I also need to write about the two jazz bands I run. In fact, I have begun websites for them too, so there lies more blogging activities.

My next move will likely be to take a peek at my Technojungle Project. I suppose I have been blaming my blogging neglect on the writing of my upcoming book, however, music has also been a strong draw away. I have even postponed work on my photography.

Don't worry about the details of all these projects and activities. I will make sure the mud settles as soon as I get a better handle on how I want to set up things here on this blog to start with.

It will take some time, so stay tuned and be patient.
